Local dive sites along The Costa Del Sol

Along the Costa del Sol, there are a few dive sites abundant with life, great for shorter excursions. The two main dives locally are The Tower in Marbella and El Galeón in San Pedro de Alcántara.

Sites

  1. The Tower: A 10 minute swim from the shore, the Marbella Tower is the remains of an old cable car system that carried iron ore from a mine in the mountains to waiting barges offshore. The tower itself is still intact, as well as the piling underneath it, creating many hiding holes for conger eels and morays. At around 10m of depth, the remains of a crane arm can be found, creating a home for groupers and other fish life. There’s also a wreck of a small barge sitting on a sandy bottom, creating an ideal home for marbled electric rays.

  2. El Galeón. This spanish galleon is what is left of a spanish military ship that was scuttled and set alight nearly 300 years ago. The ship was carrying equipment such as uniforms, and to this day, bronze buttons and belt buckles can still be found! The wreck can be found at a shallow 7m of depth, making it perfect for beginners as well as advanced divers alike. The wooden ribs of the wreck provide a home for cuttlefish, octopus, rays and more. Multiple cannons lay alongside the wreck, providing a home for conger eels too.
